Hotel Neri sits in the singularly most special place in Barcelona, Placa Sant Felip Neri, from which the hotel takes its name.
As I write this, sitting at one of the six low tables that make up the hotel's terrace, flower blossoms fall from the tree above, dusting my sheet of paper, and drop to the floor to blend-in with so many thousands others carpeting the cobbled stones.
Hotel Neri looks like it belongs here, one of four 18th century buildings in the square, another, the church of Sant Felip Neri displays Barcelona's turbulent past, its facade pockmarked from civil war gunshot.
The very definition of a boutique hotel, Neri offers Segways and bicycles to its guests, beautifully appointed rooms with every comfortcombining contemporary style with touches from centuries past, and a truly friendly and helpful staff.
If this hotel is within your budget, do not hesitate, as its position in this square and location in the city makes it the very best on offer.
So good, that when we started compiling our reviews, this was the first one we wrote.
